HelpPracticeGame

Instructions

Meditype is a medical typing program designed to help you to improve your typing speed and accuracy.

There are two main aspects to the program - Typing Practice, and a Typing Game.

Typing Practice

This module allows you to practice typing passages that might appear in patient documents. To begin typing, press the BLUE START button. A random passage will appear in the white box at the top part of the screen, and you have 2 minutes to type as much as you can in the bottom part of the screen (the grey area). The program will track your speed and accuracy, as well as a list of incorrect words. If you miss a whole word out (or type it twice by mistake) the program will recognise all other words after this as incorrect. This is because the program compares the 1st word at the top with the 1st word that you type. If you do make a mistake like this, you can always go back to the error and delete it, and then continue typing.

Typing Game

If you click the Game button at the top of the screen, you will first be asked to choose a difficulty level for the game - easy, medium or hard. This will determine how difficult the game is, by altering the speed at which words appear and move.

The typing game features a set of words that appear at random. To start the game, click the mouse in the central typing bar:

Start

Words move across the screen from left to right and then settle on the right hand side. To remove a word, you must type the full word correctly and then press the space bar or the enter (return) key. The words are case sensitive, so you must type any capitals and punctuation marks correctly. Once a word is typed correctly, it will disappear. If a whole line of words reaches the left side of the top box, or if the time finishes, the game ends. If your score is one of the 10 highest, you will be able to enter your name (up to 10 characters) into the high score table.

To restart the game, click the blue START button and then click in the central typing bar (as above).

To change the difficulty level, click the GAME link at the top of the screen, to go back to the difficulty selection screen. If you can complete a full 2 minutes at the HARD level, there is a more challenging level available if you can find it...

Resolution

The site needs a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. If you are not sure what this is, or how to change it, you can read a step by step tutorial on it here.
